Changing The Cylinder On a Storefront Door Lock

Remove the set screw near the lock and loosen it. On the outside of the door, the set screw will be the one closest to the lockcilindro.Turn the set screw counterclockwise with a Phillips head screwdriver until it loosens. You can rotate the lock cylinder by loosening the set screw.

1.To unscrew the lock, insert a key and spin it clockwise.

2.In the hole, insert a new lockcilindro.

3.Turn a key that doesn't fit into the lock clockwise.

4.Tighten the set screw again.

5.Replace the faceplate and test the lock.

6.Locate the ignition's access hole.

Use a key that isn't the same as the one that unlocks the door to use as a wrench. To loosen the cylinder, insert the mismatched key into the keyhole and turn it counterclockwise. The cylinder should simply come out of the hole in the door if it's loose enough.

l If there is a lot of resistance, tighten the set screw even more.

2.In the hole, insert a new lockcilindro.

With the keyhole facing outward, insert the new lock cylinder into the hole. Start threading the new cylinder in the hole by turning it clockwise.

l If you encounter a lot of resistance when turning the key, it means the threads aren't catching properly. Unscrew the cylinder and start over from the beginning in this scenario.

3.Turn a key that doesn't fit into the lock clockwise.

Use a key that wasn't designed for the lock this time so that it catches and may be used as a wrench. When you feel resistance and the keyhole is on the bottom of the lock, stop turning the cylinder.

l As you turn the key, check sure the cylinder's threads are aligned with the threads around the lock's hole.

4.Tighten the set screw again.

To install the new lock cylinder, turn the set screw clockwise. You should no longer be able to rotate the lock cylinder after tightening the set screw.

5.Replace the faceplate and test the lock.

Line up the holes in the latch with the holes in the door and place the faceplate over the latch. Replace the screws in their holes with a screwdriver. To ensure that the new lock and the door locks are properly installed, use the correct key.

7.Locate the ignition's access hole.

The ignition access hole is usually located around the steering wheel on most kinds of cars. To locate it on your vehicle, consult your owner's manual. Under the steering wheel on Fords, there are normally three holes. The access hole for your ignition should be the smallest hole in the centre.
